The same framework, a different environment.
Independent healthcare providers register and are regulated under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 — the same framework that governs adult social care. Regulation 17, Good Governance, applies in the same terms: systems and processes must be in place to assess, monitor and improve the safety and quality of the service.
CQC assesses independent healthcare through its five key questions — Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led — using the relevant quality statements and evidence for the service, including governance, risk management, audit, incident management, safeguarding and workforce assurance. The framework is common; what has to be evidenced, and how, depends on the service.
